Brent Builds!!

The foundry in Victoria had a fireman’s pole as a service bell you could strike with a base drum stick to get their attention.

Brass pole will be going from the attic space to the middle of the shop. That way I can provide the fireman and she can provide the extinguisher all in one go!!! :D

I can picture the pole, but I can't quite see the rest. All's I know for sure is that you sailors are all crazy...... So it's probably for the best to leave it that way

If you go with the beaded curtains, where are you putting the brass pole?
Years ago I worked as a partsman/purchaser for a local company that was owned by some fairly conservative Mennonites. I fielded a call for some materials that was a bit unusual but I proceeded ahead anyways.

The boss comes in, asks me what I'm doing. Told him I was sourcing a brass pole. "For what?", he innocently asks. After a moment's hesitation I come clean & tell him it's for the local stripper bar. His face turns red, he gets all flustered, mutters something about me doing a good job & bails out of the room.

As an aside, we didn't get the job...

Trusses have arrived!!! 16 attic trusses 10/12 pitch offering an attic of 11’ x 24’ with 7’ head room!

Next is the sheeting and tying the old shop into the new machine end !! Totally excited and hope to roof update you folks in a few more days!!

Busy busy times!!!

Also very exciting!!!
Going great guns to get the shop addition water tight. After opening up the roof of the original shop - it rained - Some water but tarps held things in check. Time line- trusses arrived Thursday Sept 5, trusses up the 6th, the 7th laid the attic floor and sorted out the incoming roof. The 8th we sheeted the one side and I installed forms at the neighbours for a 24x24 work space. 9th we packed the sand for concrete pour next door and sheeted the other side of the roof

On the 10th I framed in the gable ends (wood from my mill) and I started on the back framing for the tie in roof. Going from 5/12 to a 10/12

The new “machine shop” floor. 22 x 24 with radiant floor heat

Poured a 24x24 pad for the neighbours on Wednesday and they responded by getting the shingles (they own a roofing company) completed today!!

I also went over and stress cut the 24x24 pad this morning while they were roofing. My boys and I wrapped the addition and installed the windows and door. Tomorrow I put in the garage door and finish up some sealing and we are water tight!!! Woo hoo!!

Milling machine was moved out of the way and I will soon cut the doorway between the shops

I will insulate, vapour barrier the whole shop, strap and drywall the ceiling, board the walls. Then paint the entire place a slight off white. Electrical will surface run in conduit.

Stay tuned for more action…. Well… it happens slowly so maybe “action” is a bit misleading…..perhaps progress is better!

Hey Brent . . . Better get that heat source updated for the expansion.
We have had some nights in the single digits already . . . in Ontario !!

Heat source is radiant floor an yep, already having frost warnings- crazy!!
Haven't had a frost warning yet here in South Sask. Lots of rain a couple of weeks ago and still cutting the grass twice a week when usually everything is brown and dry. Tomatoes are still ripening on the vine and that almost never happens here. I usually pick all the tomatoes first week of September and let them ripen inside till the end of November. Poplars are just starting to turn. This might be the year I have to cut the grass around the snowblower to get it hooked up. The farmers around me are just starting to combine canola after finishing up the lentils and wheat. The canola north of me in this picture was swathed in August and still hasn't been combined. A few years ago it was already covered in snow.

I lived in N Dakota (Hazen) for 3+ years. Great experience. Just a couple hours from where you are in Kronau. Not many trees around unless you plant them. Yours look really nice. Guessing you’re included some Russian olives since they can survive the dry summers. The town name Kronau, like a lot in N Dakota, reflects its German heritage. Kinda like the local special of the day being fleischkuekle.

(I realize that Saskatchewan is not North Dakota but they are geographically similar. Also, German immigration in Saskatchewan, 130 years ago, was very similar to N.D.)
