KBC measuring tool set

On eBay federal dial indicators go for cheap - like 10 or under plus shipping. BUT not test indicators. I did not see one - even in just thou - go for under 30 CAD plus shipping. The tenths one can go for well over 60 CAD.

I can also sell you a cheap plunge indicator. Sold bunch of them on auction and got next to nothing for them.

@combustable herbage : where are you located? There is a pile of stuff on Kijiji for measuring if you are in Ontario. Search “machinist tools”. There is a Noga for $50, micrometer sets and indicators - even full tool boxes

@Brent H - you guys have almost all the fun! [mock angry face] We get deals here, but they are fewer, and you have to pounce right away, as you never know when (or if) the next deal will show up.

@Dabbler - in many cases I will agree. I just wish the deals were not as epic a drive to get. For any "deals" on my part it is typically a 4 -6 hour drive LOL the cost of time and gas typically outweigh the deal on small items - like that Noga for $50 in Cambridge would cost me at least $75 in fuel and then time so, not cheap. I have been very lucky buying full tool boxes for decent prices - always looking out for those :)

I am in Ottawa I have been watching kijiji and fb marketplace in Ont, there is a lot out there and some has high prices for used stuff and there is definitely more and the deals are better as you move towards the GTA , I will find something to get me going i am taking holidays soon so I am just putting the pieces together for a few projects and continuing the learning curve on the lathe. I appreciate the offers @Tom Kitta and @Dabbler if it was closer it would be easier, normally I travel a lot to Toronto and Vancouver and a few other Canadian cities and it made it much easier to grab good deals. I am sure I will end up with a few of each in the end as well as I explore some different deals.

So true! Ontario is a very big place. In Hamilton I guess you could say I'm in the GTA but to catch a deal in Windsor is a full day of driving there and back. To catch something the other side of Toronto could take half a day and the traffic through TO is horrendous. I've driven through Los Angeles a few times and I thought the traffic in TO was worse. I'm sure @Chicken lights could add something to that. When I was a young sprite I once drove across Canada from Burlington ON to the coast in BC. It took me about four days to get out of ON but after that only another two days to reach BC!

Ugh. It’s agonizing to hit the border in Ontario after spending a week or two in the USA. Or even a week out west and you hit Parry Sound and you start dreading it getting closer to Barrie (no offence Brent). The QEW and 4 series highways are a disaster. I’ll leave it at that, no need to start with the working words

Actually there’s enough of us, now, we might be able to start a friendly tool deal program? Member from Barrie spots a killer deal in Hamilton, member in Hamilton picks it up and stores it until it could make it to Barrie? Just as an example. But we have members from Thunder Bay, Ottawa, Hamilton, Peterborough, St Catherine’s, Oakville....that’s a pretty good chunk of Ontario. Food for thought

I would definitely be willing to help out members in Ontario or Quebec in viewing or purchasing and holding items based on my ability, I'm always cruising around on kijiji especially since I have got into machining, many crazy rabbit holes amazing how one little search can take you off into the shopping cyberworld and sometimes where you end up you don't even remember what you were searching for:eek:.

One potential problem might be payments transfers. I usually don't have enough cash lying around to even pay for everything I want for myself let alone for what other people might want.

@Canadium : e-transfer works great these days!

@Chicken lights :
.......you hit Parry Sound and you start dreading it getting closer to Barrie (no offence Brent).

None taken David - the worst area in the world for stupid drivers and traffic congestion - Friday going north and Sunday going south....ugh!

We moved out of Barrie as it can get to be a crazy grid locked place. 25 years ago it was not bad, a drive from our old house to the lumber store and the beer store was 15 minutes round trip....when we left Barrie it was taking 15 minutes just to back out of the driveway to start the adventure....

For sure everyone has limitations for me it would be size and weight for lifting but knowing the group I think people would respect those limitations.

I always take the train to Toronto when I can its soo much nicer of a trip just hop on and away you go I love watching out the window so much to see old cars, machinery, nature, the lake much calmer than the highways.

I hope this isn’t too much of a backtrack but I was reminded of this today and thought it might interest some. The Noga arms we’re all familiar with these days didn’t actually start as machinist tools but were developed in Israel for other fields. They’ve now been appropriated to medical, photography, laboratory science, and of course the film industry which I think was was one of the first uses. Here’s a mid-sized version in use holding a small LCD monitor on a PeeWee III camera dolly.

Well I purchased a noga arm and base from amazon and an accusize dial indicator, that will get me a start I also ordered a cheap test indicator to play with and drop while I am learning and will be on the lookout for a better one used or new.

@combustable herbage don't know exactly where in ON you are located. For myself the Brantford, Hamilton, St. Catharines, Burlington, Oakville areas are not difficult to cover. Hotspots for good stuff like Windsor, Kitchener-Waterloo-Guelph, and TO are quite far and not places I go very often especially during the pandemic.

@Canadium I am in Greely which is south of Ottawa so for me Ottawa/Gatineau, Cornwall and the west quebec and east ontario.
There isn't as much action as the GTA but sometimes its good. I see lots of stuff in your area as well I think because of the steel, it must be so cheap down there, probably grows wild on the side of the road:p. There is a few guys out there that have lots of little stuff for sale all the time but high prices.
