YouTube $$

Sure this isn't targeted? What are you watching? ;)
That's the silly part of it all, there supposed to be this all great algorithm. I only watch machining channels and one tractor guy. If this thing is so great why does it come up the ridiculous things that it "recommended for you " and "based on your previous searches". I wished there was a "do not recommend X genre" option.

I have a hate on for YT because they terminated my channel. Cannot figure out why (sleepy channel of 100% original metal working stuff, nothing controversial, political or racy) The hate on is because 1) no warning, 2) no explanation 3) this authoritarian, arrogant attitude where you don't get the courtesy of a human interactive appeal or explanation. Despite all the work you put into providing content for us for free, our algorithm thinks you did something wrong so it terminated you. Screw you, we're too important to waste time talking to you.

A glimpse of the big data dystopian future?

YouTube's mission statement used to be; "Our mission is to give everyone a voice and show them the world."

Now it's; "Our mission is to give everyone a voice...except that metal worker guy who goes by the name Mcgyver...and show them the world."

A creator can elect not to monetize their content. Most creators love to accept product placement and sponsorships... I hate those the most

Not to monetize yes, but youtube will still run ads in it and take all the money. There's no choice as a creator to not have any advertisements on their channel, even if they haven't hit the threshold for monetization, youtube will always run ads. The only control we have is over mid-roll ads (in the middle of the video) if the video is over 8 minutes, and the positioning of those mid-roll ads.

@Mcgyver - they must have sent you a generic reason somewhere. Typically it's copyright strikes or re-used content or theoretically yes, inappropriate content, but that's unlikely if your channel is as you say it is.

You'd think. If I was in your shoe's I'd be thinking " there must be more to it". There's not and I'm stymied. Below is the sum total of all communication from them. There cannot be copyright issues, it is all stuff I filmed, no music. All workshop projects. No warning or explanation beyond its against the rules.

Here's what I got. June 2024. That is only explanation given, no reference to a specific video etc. There was no spam, double posting, commercial links, deceptive practices or scamming. The claim repeated violations!? Crazy, that was the first email from them since March 2023 (which was confirmation of my "handle" being update).

Their appeal processes, I've been told the appeal decision is by bot, basically has you fill write a paragraph in a box. I said basically what I've said, here, don't understand, will gladly change if got something wrong, there can't copyright issues because it's all original, there is nothing contentious etc.

This was the response. No reason, no explanation, to clarification of the brutally vague accusation etc

How many subscribers and views did you have? Could it be that your channel wasn't popular enough for them?

Hardly, but read the above. What do you think?

I think there is some flaw in the bot that erroneously terminates these accounts and one I didn't like what I had posted. Several here are subscribed, it was low workshop stuff 100% created by me.

There's an implicit bargain here between You tube and Creators. You post videos you create, play be rules and we will host and serve them. That's what I did, no rules were broken. Despite making the bargain, they are so big and I so unimportant to them, I feel like their approach is "flush the bargain and who cares about fair play". Could be I'm wrong and did offend, but then give a warning and enough info to alter course AND have a reasonable dispute resolution process rather than the authoritarian "you're screwed because our bot says so"

People put huge effort into creating content. Some make it their living (not me, my channel was small). They've claimed I broken the bargain, I think they are wrong but there is no way to reach a human to have a reasonable resolution. If I did inadvertently do something wrong, I gladly change, but there was no warning and resolution.

I'm not the only instance. In trying understand this and searching, there are lots in the same position.

can't remember, maybe 100 subscribers? Like I say, a sleepy little channel of very specialized content. Although that is kind what makes the outlet work vs (say) a television network, and there are smaller channels than mine that don't get terminated.

For sure I matter not to them, but that doesn't change how wrong it is what they did and how they did it.

I hear what you're saying but sometimes talking to the people who work for these big companies is an even worse option.

For example, I won an auction on eBay.com but the seller did not ship the item. Fortunately, I used PayPal and the money was being held in limbo waiting for the seller to ship. I followed all the steps that eBay.com required before asking to cancel the purchase when it became clear to me the item was never going to ship.

Process seemed straight forward until I realized that my account was given a negative rating because eBay.com claimed I refused to send the money.

I spoke to 3 humans including some sort of so-called specialist. Nobody could explain why I was getting a negative review when it was the seller not shipping the item that stalled the transaction. They could even see at their end the polite emails I sent the seller which they never replied to.

Closed my account after that.
Easily one of the most frustrating customer disservice encounters I have ever had. About 2 hours of insanity.

I believe these big company customer service folk simply follow a script from which they can't or don't know how to deviate from.

Not being able to discuss your situation with some low level customer service rep. located in Timbuck2 might be better for your mental health in the long run.

Or maybe venting your frustrations to someone at YouTube, even if it gets you no where like my eBay.com example, is what you need for closure.

Apparently there is a modicum of hope. Hat in hand like a Dickens' character, post your plight to "X". Beg and plead and hope some you tube employee notices and takes pity on you. Get your best grovelling shoes on.

TeamYouTube on X does actually respond to things, I've asked them questions and get a response from a human. This is what I was going to recommend after seeing your reply.

Are you also sure your channel didn't get hijacked? That's also fairly common apparently, and someone just uploads a pile of spam to it and it gets shut down before you ever notice.

Do you think there was any construed issue to your @Mcgyver forum handle? Meaning association to differently spelled 'MacGyver' the 1980's TV series character? Although fictional & highly entertaining, he was, under that dreamy haircut, a dangerous man.

^^ If that's the case ^^ I see a 2-standards system. Have you considered incorporating a pet or animal into your content? Maybe that's the ticket.

I think I watched all, or nearly all the video's you posted on your channel and I couldn't possibly think of a reason any of them would have been considered offensive, or cross any forbidden boundaries of the user agreement. Very frustrating and disappointed they pulled you down, and you cannot find a suitable resolution to move forward. Sucks because even if they did reinstate you at this point I'm sure there's some trust issues that it won't just happen again.

Shame, I really enjoyed your projects and presentation. Seems like a pretty easy problem to resolve if you could simply talk to a Human that possesses a brain, but I guess that's where we are with this stuff now. :(

I didn't use that name as I kind of regret that handle. It was nickname from a buddy and seemed like a good idea at the time ..... but of course most associate it with the TV character (and god forbid, think I might be sporting a mullet) But I've had for so long now on so many forums ..... did start using measuretwice on some forums. Spelling came from a large painting in my son's room that has a big "McGyvers Bait and Tackle" sign)

I hadn't tried that yet, have never tweeted so need to figure it out, but thanks for the encouragement, I guess I'll try. No idea if it was hijacked. I can still sign in to google with that account, just can't access You tube. I did try the 'appeal', explained all the reasons, it doe not add up, and could they tell me exactly what I did and could I have another chance ... figuring if it was hijacked whoever would have read the appeal would have said something. But alas, I think the appeal was read and judged by a bot. The PWord was long and complicated, but maybe there other ways bad guys could have gotten in.

Scott on Cold War Motors is always complaining about having his subscribers getting unsubscribed . But he is pretty subversive, imagine repairing old cars instead of buying that new KIA I keep seeing ads for.

THANK YOU!

I feel like someone who doesn't know me might be sitting there reading this going "yeah right, what did he really do" lol

I didn't actually realize you were still dealing with this. I remember you posting about it back when it happened, and thought it would have been an easily resolvable mistake on their part, and that the reason you hadn't posted another video was simply because you were busy doing other things.

The fact it hasn't been resolved yet, and you're still dealing with it is mind blowing. I hope it does get straightened out, and you continue posting about your projects. But I can completely understand if you're salty about it, and decide to not bother. You have every right to be. IMO content like yours is exactly what youtube needs more of.

Is there a way to post your content for private use by invitation? That way you could post invitation links here on the forum and maybe they wouldn't care that much...... ?????
