Tool Vevor Drill Bit Sharpener

Tool
I think they could last a very long time. Especially if they are dressed as needed. But if you intend to use it extensively, I'd get a backup wheel or two. Then again, I have backups for a lot of things that I've never needed so my advice should be suspect.
at the price you can buy 4 or 5 wheels. I am buying the kit to increase the drill sizes up to 3/4" too for peanuts.

plus, economics says, sell enough you create a long term demand for consummables, and China loves to sell consummables.

How long does everyone think these little grinding wheels last ?
This has been an interesting discussion & I was about to ask that same question. Especially if you are going to fix up a drawer full of dull bits - not to mention sharing with your bro

I bought a Drill Doctor (about a month ago) that is still unused - ? - will I ?

This is the million dollar question. I've used mine and I gotta say it works. Waaaay better than this old man can do manually. I dunno if I shake too much or just can't see. Prolly just excuses cuz I couldn't do it 20 years ago either!

I hear amazing claims being made for the vevor though. Stuff like "bits are better than new"...... That's a hell of a claim. Gotta wonder what kind of new junk was being compared.... I wouldn't bet a Dormer could be better than new. But a fella can dream! Just imagine like new dormers all the time......

I bought a Drill Doctor a long time ago. Played around with it a little and was not terribly impressed with it altho like @Susquatch it was probably better than what I could do by hand and that was when I still had some decent eyesight left! I also have a ton of old drill bits that could use sharpening so I think one of these Vevors is on my wish list!

I have a box set of drills from KBC Tools, one of those metric/imperial/ number sets.
They are pretty much unusable out of the box. But a couple of minutes with my Drill Doctor 750X and they cut very well.
I just sharpen them as I need them.

Now that sir,... Is a great idea! I have 2 sets like that. I got the first one at PA and the second was part of a Kijiji buy. They are all junk. Might be worth sharpening them!

Thanks for the suggestion!

well then whimp - just get it!!!
you can practice on my dull bits - I'll bring over lots
Well my to do list is even longer than everyone else's! It is so long it disappears over the horizon and I can't even see the end of it any more. It's on my list some where for sure! I'll let you know when it gets here and of course you are welcome to come over and do your drill bits on it!

my FIL saved all the used dull and broken bits from his old work. Quality stuff, but his workplace didn't bother to sharpen them they just got new. So he saved them, and now I'm the benefactor and all I have to do is sharpen them. I've had them now for two years in a box in the cupboard.

Plus I have a few sets that from new were never sharp. Like the one I snapped and then gored myself with. I'm gonna grind the crap out of that one as revenge.

All this drill sharpening discussion had me looking for my General #835 attachment . It one of the old ones made in New York. I have never used it. My buddy at work gave it to me. I think the company bought it and he snagged it. I can free hand sharpen larger bits, small bits were just replaced at work.

How long does everyone think these little grinding wheels last ? This thing works so well that I would hate for it to become obsolete in 10 years because you cant buy the little wheels and I didn't stock up
From what I see these are a standard size wheel that you should be able to purchase at multiple sources. CBN or diamond. No dressing required. Long life wheels. I think SDC230 or CBN230 will get you what you need.

Check out this video
@7:05 Sharpen, split point and web thinning. Good visuals.
thanks. That allows me to see how the grind is different.

I still cant see where the split point is cut on the thickness of the wheel. The main grind is in the middle. The web thinning on the back edge.

The split point looks like the back edge, but not as far back as the web thinning. I'm pretty sure I can mod my drill grinder to do both - see post 79 below

I have a Drill Doctor and was so unimpressed that I never use it. This is a much better weapon. I do pretty decent hand sharpening and I buy good quality Norseman bits. But I can see the day coming when I can't see to sharpen the small ones anymore, and this will do the trick.
I should chuck the DD though.
