Probably. I was just curious as to the cost of that vs a new/exposed trench to lay another cable & main panel hookup to increase the amp capacity to (detached) garage. Since they don't do it for whatever reason, I guess moot point. In the end I'm OK. I can run my machines & can also do moderate TIG welding one day. But the moral of the story is install appropriate line capacity as the incremental cost of cable is probably not significant in grand scheme of things.

I looked at panel upgrades for my dad's 1960's home & had a similar experience, quotes all over the map. And what made me wonder out loud is some were including external upgrades & others not. I would have thought the code was the code.

I had to get 3 quotes for my drop and it turned out the best company was the cheapest - by half. I used them for over 20 years to do the stuff I didn't like to or want to do... I checked out all three, though, by word of mouth and BBB. The highest priced guy had a terrible BBB file!

Almost every bit of wiring is mine, except for the garage link, the main drop and a few other bits that had to be done while I was out of town. I did the trenching and laying for my garage link myself, with the pull and connect being done by the electrician.

Nothing further as I’m investigating what I need for roof substrate.

I wonder if the hydro and phone lines could be moved to follow the neighbors lines. That would put them over the property line and not directly over the shop

In theory yes, but in reality I think BC Hydro would refuse to as we have a pole and transformers at the end of the drive.

Only one way to find out. I'm still thinking your best bet is to have a chat with the inspector as he/she is the one with the final yah/nay.
