Small machine shop for sale, $16,000, Cranbrook BC

Perhaps gerritv is referring to a mid 1980’s FP1? Seem to recall Peter in NL sold a late model FP1 to North America last year. Did someone here get it? If so, yes, as mentioned above, yes they do have roller bearings on vertical head. And also accepted standard ISO40 tooling instead of the Deckel Sagegevinde (saw tooth on drawbar end) as on pre mid 1980’s machines.

Just to clarify, the FP1 for sale on this thread is somewhere in the mid 1950’s to mid 1960’s era,

Two rows needle bearing at bottom of spindle Deckel 40 taper. The Deckel mt#4 I’ve seen were similar.

I think this snap from the manual is the plain bearing version. Not certain tho. Just posted for easy comparison.

And I’m reasonably certain, now that I’ve looked closely and refreshed my memory, that the ad’s pics of the Cranbrook Deckel vertical head show the bronze plain bearing version. On the off chance that matters to anyone.

(edited for clarity)

I am reasonably certain the FP1 spindle on this is roller bearing, getting a serial number would confirm that.
For experience working to import a quality FP1 from Netherlands last December, 10-12k is reasonable considering what comes with this one. Looks like a full set of E355/Deckel collets, rotary table, slotting head and guessing what is behind the slotting head in the photo the indexing head (the vertical one that Stafan G uses).
The thing to find out is about the motor, some of the original ones were 2 speed, difficult to sort out using a VFD.
...
Rotab is non deckel (the deckel one is kinda huge - 380mm) and the thing behind the slotting head is the horizontal overarm (that goes where the vertical head goes). pity it doesnt have the dividing head, that's probably the accessory I find the most useful (with the self centering vise).

the original motor should be 2 speed yeah but considering that there's a light switch on this one it might have been swapped, super easy to do on an FP1

on the topic of spindles even though I don't think anyone cares lol:
here's some pictures of a plain bearing one. I didn't know they made plain bearing vertical heads until we took this one apart. this one's on my friend's fp1 to replace the original head which had extremely exploded bearings (the entire machine looked like it was ran for years without any lubrication)

and my 2c on price:
12,000 for that machine sounds kind of insane? like I suspect you could import a much nicer SK40 (dial type) fp1 from europe for around that much. From what I've seen in the past few years, with a bit of luck and patience (maybe multiple years lol) you could get a bare-ish FP1 in ontario/quebec for around 3k, dunno if the west coast factor makes up the rest...

mind you all of these things are obsolete junk - the only intrinsic value of any machine is its weight in scrap lol
