I like Cranbrook and have been thru enough times to know travel distances anywhere else. Unless a local buys the shop, imho this is high end of reasonable. Also high end of reasonable in MB. Might be different if In Toronto ;-)

looks like the same gen of fp1 as mine - mid 50s, this should be plain bearing (!) horiz and vertical spindles, and 10" travel on X.
looks like it comes with a few good accessories: tilty swively table, slotting head, horiz overarm, wolhaupter-y looking boring head... and the funny accessory table that bolts to the drive belt cover

I didn't know they came with plain bearings then, not that there is anything wrong with plain bearings (they can be more accurate), just wasn't aware.

The Deckel spindles that I think are a horrible design, and I have an Aciera afflicted the same way, is where the main bearing is a needle bearing with the shaft the inner race and the housing the outer race. Bearings are a wear part (!!) and this is difficult and expensive to fix.

Unfortunately only the mid to late 1980’s mostly ‘Actif’ FP1’s had roller bearings on the vertical heads. Horizontal was still needles directly on spindle. From late 1950’s thru mid 1980’s all FP1s were needle bearing directly on spindle for both vertical and horizontal.

Replaceable taper rollers would have been better imho.

I think that modern FP1 machines have taper roller bearings. The 'all or nothing' for the whole shop means it is permanently out of reach.
Talked to the seller and he is willing to sell things separately. Wants $12k for the mill and tooling which is way out of my reach unfortunately.

yeah. It would need all the accessories, including the rotary table, both table adapters, and much more for 12K$.

He knows they are not plentiful - and can ask a premium. From what I saw, the bare mill is worth 6-7K (IMO), but I haven't seen enough of the accessories to make it to 12K.

$4k for the Emco and the Clarkson doesn't seem unreasonable.
agreed

$16000 is the purchase price for the complete shop. Individually the prices will be higher. I have been in contact with him about the Emco lathe, he is asking considerably more than $4000.

If I were a reseller, then a reasonable counteroffer is possible. That is someone other than me, however.

If the EMCO is with plenty of tooling and not worn out then the 4k asked seems very reasonable. At least in AB market. Note I just sold 14x40 in AB for $3700 without much of any tooling. But lathe was in overall like new condition.

imo that emco is a prize (claimed with loads of tooling) and should fetch a lot more than 4k, but as pointed out you can't slice and dice it. I would have apportioned value close to equally between the two ..... but its cheap and easy to be flippant as an armchair buyer :)

I am reasonably certain the FP1 spindle on this is roller bearing, getting a serial number would confirm that.
For experience working to import a quality FP1 from Netherlands last December, 10-12k is reasonable considering what comes with this one. Looks like a full set of E355/Deckel collets, rotary table, slotting head and guessing what is behind the slotting head in the photo the indexing head (the vertical one that Stafan G uses).
The thing to find out is about the motor, some of the original ones were 2 speed, difficult to sort out using a VFD.

This would certainly beat a Bridgeport type mill with all its afterthought addons for power feeds etc. From the photo the paint looks in good condition, a sign a being taken care of during its life.

gerrit

Alas, no, not roller. After the pain bearing version was upgraded there was two rows of dreaded needle bearing on bottom end of plain vertical head. There was also a high speed head and boring head (required a rare adapter for FP1, not needed for FP2 or bigger) that had ball bearings on top and bottom end. Top end of plain head, depending on era, had ball thrust bearings either one row or multiple.

There’s several online parts diagrams to confirm this. And have been in the guts of several machines. Having said that, I have seen one FP1 of the era of the one being sold here that had a user modified plain vertical head with ball bearings thruout. Perhaps using bits from a high speed head? It had one row of small ball bearings running on spindle directly at bottom. Seemed undersized to me, but worked.

Don’t get me wrong, I like Deckels. I have three, altho not currently an FP1.
