Hey @YYCHM and @YotaBota - when I was shipping parts for the 9” donor lathe I ”think” Craig and I had a discussion about the clutch and its adjustment. I know I took pictures with the arrangement- perhaps they are still with the 9” Restoration thread? I can check with my Utilathe files ….

I don't recollect any pictures or discussions? What I received from you was a complete clutch assembly.

This star knob. It's a finger trap if not mindful

Someone has replaced the factory knurled knob, p/n 11 on the parts sheet, with that star knob. You're right though, that is a finger breaker.

My South Bend had a similar clutch knob and I can attest that it is an accident waiting to happen.

I took the knob off. The nut inside was super tight. There is wood particles behind the knob.

I got it working. Someone torqued the centre nut to the knob. Like really hard. So I could not turn the knob in to pull the clutch in to engagement. I cleaned everything I could, put the selector back on. Put the knob back on and played with it and I got it working. I backed the knob off a bit and the tightened the nut just to that point. I also cleaned up a bit. Changed the oil in the apron and topped it up. I did a practice cut on both the cross slide and the main bed. Worked very well. Super excited to have these functions working properly.
