Power off.

The only problem I've had with our Generac is the battery charger board going duff a few years ago.

Ours was used 5 days a week for almost two months when the crew used it to build the house, hydro never made it onsite until about two weeks before the end of the build. This gave the genny a proper break in period as opposed to having the genny installed, test fired for couple of hours and then fired up once in a while for exercise.

Pure speculation on my part but I don't think many generators are initially run long enough or hard enough to get properly broke in.

They are selling a lot of these in our area If I remember right its and easy install but someone from hydro has to be there for the install so you pay extra for that but then you can just plug your generator into the socket on the meter and its ready to supply what is needed.

Power connection, nudge nudge wink wink....;-)

I have two 5000W generators; Honda and Coleman about the only thing they have in common is the power rating. The Coleman was free and the Honda cost me $1k used and I think that was a really good price. Both had no more than a couple days of use. I have complete faith in the Honda, I don't expect the Coleman to last very long. The English language manual for the Honda is 77 pages long very detailed with a maintenance schedule. The manual for the Coleman is 3 pages total for three languages and does not even state the recommended oil, my conclusion they don't expect it to ever need an oil change. Typical used prices Coleman about $200-400, Honda $1000-$3000. From what I have read trying to service a Generac is a lost cause.

I recently missed out on a really old IIRC 1989 Honda looked like it had been through a war, really rusted, the GX engine started first pull and ran like it was new. Sold for $350

I have a Be inverter type of generator, do not recommend them. Starts poorly, runs fine when going but you will never start it with the rope pull, piss poor manual and heavy for it's size.

Mine had 7 service calls before it produced a single watt of power. New coils, broken crank sensor, broken cam sensor, replaced the computer control board and a new wiring harness. I'm on my third automatic transfer switch, the first two literally exploded.
I admit I may have just gotten a lemon or a Friday afternoon- Monday morning build but the only reason it's not a boat anchor right now is because I don't have a boat.
To be clear, this isn't a portable generator, it's the size of a small car and meant for outside installation on a permanent base.
YMMV obviously but one thing to consider is where your service technician comes from. After the warranty expired the only option for me was either 2 1/2 or 5 hours away at 185/hr from the time they started the truck.
We got the size we did because we needed something capable of running the heat pumps in the kennel during an outage. I originally had a 10,000 watt portable but it wouldn't even start one heat pump, let alone both.

You did get a POS, they (dealer) should have just brought you a new machine but that's hindsight.

Hope you find a different dealer closer.

Our machine is also on a pad and when it does finally die we've been looking at the Cummins genny's.

No dealer. I ordered from Home Depot and saved thousands.
Oh snap........
