Peavey Mart Closing

Didn’t know there’s an Air Liquide in Brandon. Did a little look see just for giggles- found there’s also a Messer. Ooops, that’s Brandon Mississippi..
lol we have all three welding suppliers plus an outlet for maintenance welding tanks I think it is. Plus meth dealers and a homeless problem and all the big city stuff lol

Yeah, sorry if Wpg exported that other stuff to you.

FWIW, Maintenance Welding on Logan gave me the best quotes on rentals for my limited use. Still cheaper for me to own even allowing for small tanks- at least for C25. Maybe as I get more experience with tig/argon that will change. If Maintenance are also in Brandon might be worth a call. A mobile welder owner (in Wpg, but works MB and Sask) with two rigs told me his best leasing rates were with Air L, but he uses a crap ton more than me and prob has better negotiation.

I will check maint weldings prices thanks
Now that I’m scared of magnets and electricity I’m using a lot more gas with the Amish tig lol

Stopped in at the Peavey Mart in Saskatoon today. Bought a small oil dispenser for the lathe. Clerk said, "Be aware all sales final." I guess they were given the news this past Thursday that the store would be closing.

I know some people will miss the Peavey. Lot of rural shopped there for farm related items and work clothing.

Hopefully P M doesn't close in the west, i buy large amounts of cat food there. Reasonable price, lately there has been no stock of it, one long time worker told me they are having trouble accessing it. Hmm. could be another reason.
Apparently quite a few are closing, as well as ACE hardware stores, owned by Peavy Mart also

This really bothers me. I use and love Amazon, but what am I gunna do when I have no choices anymore? And what about all the local jobs that are lost. And what will Amazon become when it has no more competition left?

People will get fed up with something Amazon does, their prices will get too high, or whatever, and another competitor will spring up in their place.

It's like cable tv/blockbuster to netflix or satellite radio/cds to spotify...and now people are getting fed up with streaming companies and we'll go back to "acquiring" content until something else comes.

Heck, it's the same thing with Sears/Target/KMart/Zellers/Ebay/Future Shop/Radio Shack/etc to Walmart/Amazon/Best Buy....something new will come around.

At my age I need help, I don't look too good any more. In a brick and mortar store sometimes the middle aged lady even knows where it is. The kid never does or even what it is. .

Retail sales took a hit during covid as people went online, then then in the aftermath the shortage driven inflation with it's interest hike had mortgage payments and groceries taking precedent.

I heard the one in Regina was closing as well. I couldn't find anything online about them closing outside of ontario and nova scotia.
Went to the Regina store this morning.
The ALL SALES FINAL sign is the first clue. The store is largely empty. More empty floor space than I've ever seen there. Stock ranges from regular price to 30% off but no screaming deals. I asked one of the staff and they said they were unable to disclose any information.

I didn't have a measuring tape to check, but sure looked the same size as my Q tank (I guess they have different names for their sizes?) but I said 80cf and he said yup. Guy was really nice and not sleazy sales either, so seemed legit and I've had amazing service/fair prices as a walk in DIY guy at this location in the past. They definitely won't do bigger than that though, I've never heard of any larger size tanks being not lease.
When I was still in Ontario, gas companies would sell under 100cf, over that and it was lease only.

Do you gents remember around 1980 Peavey Mart started to sell Satellite dishes? Brought some real entertainment into a lot of rural homes.

I still have a few tools I bought from them back in the day. Time flys by.
