Ontario member sound off

AFAIK there's no official number of posts, it's just encouraged that as many members as possible join in on the conversations and perhaps share a little bit of what you are up to in your shop. As without member participation, there's not much of a conversation going on to keep us entertained.
How did you make out with your pulley repair on the Atlas lathe? Did you rebore and sleeve it, or go with a new (other) one?
Hey, I think I forgot to respond to some of you Gentlemen about a similar question a while back. ‍♂️ sorry about that.

I thought the double shiv on the counter shaft, was bent /warped. Well it was,, lol!, but so was the counter shaft, it was .010” out about the centre of the shaft. So I got a nice piece of 3/4” steel bar,, (of a decent quality, from my retired machinist cousin), which was the easiest way for me, as my lathe was feeling poorly. The only troublesome issue was cutting the key way. I even tried a Cape Chisel,, if I would’ve had a way to setup a jig or a guide to prevent me & my chisel from wandering off the straight lines,, I might’ve finished it that way .?? I ended up taking it to a machine shop, the guy took a couple bucks cash for a professional key way job.
Then I opted for grease nipples instead of the caps, to keep grease in the counter shaft bearings. This was pretty easy as I have a decent drill press, and all kinds of taps. After that, I put it together and it runs pretty smoothly, it might need some tweaking still,,

Hey everyone, my name's Marco and I'm a Red Seal licensed General/ToolRoom Machinist for over 10 years, (20 years in the manufacturing trade) I live north of the GTA (New Tecumseth area).

I currently work at a food packaging manufacturing facility located in Rexdale/Etobicoke near Toronto Pearson Airport. I'm responsible for servicing moulds/dies/fixtures and also repair/remanufacture machinery components.

I have a classified advertisement for machining serviced on Kijiji (GMZ Machining) I'm driven by passion and backed up by my skillset taught to me by some serious mindful machinists in the trade over the years (Magna, ABCGroup, Jobbing shop)

Ive been looking to get a gear head bench lathe (CX708 type) for some time now, aswell as a bench top mill m/c in the future to set up a small shop in my home basement, but I'm tight with funds now with life being expensive and 2 small kids.

Please feel free to message me of any machining job/inquires or if you have any machinery available for sale.

Thanks and take care everyone

looks like I may be late to the party here, so here goes... checking in from Aylmer, ON! and no, not Aylmer east(Quebec).... as we are sometimes referred to Aylmer west around here. 40 mins south of London. Ontario road tripping, snowmobiling and offroading has had me in many of the places I read about on this feed, and 1 trip to the KOA in Thunderbay to visit (for the last time) a sister-in-law we lost in 2015, we have a a big and beautiful province here! I wish they'd fix the lake road north of Erie from Amhurstburg to Fort Erie, embarrassing how we seem to think we have an "Around the Lakes" self guided tour, to include our southern brothers, and we have 2 massive permanent detours to navigate around! not sure who's to blame here, but the municipalities need to buck up there and get it done! erosion was claiming the lake road between Port Bruce and Port Stanley and central Elgin township bought the surrounding farmland and moved the road inland far enough for many more years of safe travel, so it is doable by others, just need that initiative, lake road between Port Burwell and Turkey point for example, or the road between Blenheim and Leamington, google maps shows it passes through, but zooming in you can see the road blocks... I've been on a couple lake tours, and they are awesome! love to go around Erie again the original way! anyway all, if you're passing by, drop me a line and swing by! cheers! master sparky by trade and a dabbler in machining now for at least 20yrs does NOT make me a pro, just someone who loves fabricating when one hears those words that seem to spur me on, "that can't be fixed!" anything can be fixed, its just how inventive you are vs cost! I usually lean waay to hard to the inventive side of things! like the time I installed a Jeep YJ body onto a 1st gen Ford bronco frame, just because...cheers!

Napanee, Onatrio. After reading this list it sounds like I'm about the only one out this way.
There was a bit of a gap between the East GTA and Ottawa, but now you fill that void. You're just close enough to drive into the GTA for our next meet up.

I used to drive to Napanee often when I lived in Kingston, to collect containers of well water for brewing beer, and to there for walleye fishing too. Nice area

Well I know Aylmer fairly well, been there often (and to the Aylmer in PQ for that matter). Imperial Tobacco's old warehouses are there. My family used to tour the north shore of lake Erie every summer. We'd meet up with US relatives and camp at the various parks.

Do you know "Planet Shrimp" which is/was located in one of the old warehouses? I toured the place early in their operations but have since lost track of their status, I think that they've struggled with technical issues and the need to buy shrimp larvae from Louisiana and jump thru quarantine hurdles

Pretty sure they went belly up.

that Imperial building was bought by developers with a unique plan to use the site "as is" instead of demo, Planet Shrimp was in there, my brother in law works for the group that developed it and built that part of the building up for Planet Shrimp! I haven't heard in a while, it wasn't showing profits as they had an illness come through and wiped out stock, not sure where its at now.
