Tips/Techniques Lamp Holder

Tips/Techniques
To avoid vandals I didn't like the idea of the lamp sitting out in the open so on a 6x6" post this was one idea. I could install the rail fence and leave it just above the top rail. Then add the lamps and cover with another flat 2x6" hand rail.

Similar idea with a 4x4 post and some 2x6 enhancements. These drawings are all from 2015.

Not sure these designs are robust enough for prevention of vandalism.

To avoid vandals

I have a hard time understanding the nature of your vandals John. Not that any of us can understand a Vandal's psyche, but who are these Vandal's, and what are their motives?

In the same vein, what do you think a good anti-vandal strategy looks like?

Robust enough that a husky drunk walking down the path can't give it a big kick and smash it.
One time I found a broken booze bottle among a number of now tossed rocks from our path. I suspect the individuals accidentally dropped their bottle which shattered on the rocks. Angry they took it out on the rocks some of which were pretty big. Took a while to put them back.

Then there was this young lady who decided to try and move one of the bigger boulders. After she moved it with the front of the car she pivoted around, upside down and the back end came up against the tree. Now if the boulder wasn't there the direction of the path was head on into the tree. But we did have to get heavy equipment in to put the boulder back.

Gotcha.

So these lights are for your own home then? I missed that somehow. I thought it was another bridge lighting project on the side of a mountain road. No wonder you didn't like my thunder bird. I really thought it was a great idea for a government job.....

You need to sell that vandal trap and buy a farm in Ontario. All I have to worry about is the local teenagers frolicking naked in my cornfields and getting lost. You haven't lived till you have a young lady come knocking on your door in the middle of the night all draped in corn stocks and crying cuz she is lost and can't find her boyfriend. Did have a guy drive into my cornfields once. He made a mess but got out on his own. My neighbour wasn't so lucky. He had a guy get stuck in his cornfield and then had the balls to ask if my neighbour would come and pull him out with his tractor. Neighbour wanted to kill him.

Actually apparently Central Saanich here on the Island is one of the safest communities in Canada I'm told. And until we put our boulders in we also had our share of cars turning donuts in the yard. Of course once the boulders were in place cars tended to get high centered or flipped.

As for west of Vancouver Island... I'm with @David_R8. What's that white stuff in October ?????

I’ve probably said this before but when we were young we got sleds for Xmas and waited 2-3 years to use them but when we did Henderson road was shut down from Landsdowne to Neil street, Dad on the other hand would don his skates and skate up and down Allenby St till he passed in his 80’s, lots of good memories.

Imho, this is where leds fall flat.......... voltage is way too low to be effective. I think that you want a high enough zap so as to leave them in sock feet, it really slows down the repeat offenders..... Just find out which lawyer the local drug dealers are using, put him/her on retainer, and you should be able to do as you please without concern of conviction.

@jcdammeyer you have some strange problems there in Saanich. Must be the island. Mind you we saw a Eritrean man get assaulted, thrown into a car, and kidnapped by other Eritrean men down the street from us a couple weeks back. Broad daylight. All us work from people on their phones with the police at the same time.

What can I say. We live in the land of the newly wed and nearly dead. And it's almost Halloween...

Oh and it's Central Saanich. Totally different area and attitudes. And climate. Want snow? We'll have it. Oak Bay, Victoria, North Saanich and Sidney won't.
