Harrison 11x24 lathe w/ DRO & VFD $3500, Mid-Vancouver Island

Hi All, thanks for the comments, very much appreciated.

Unfortunately I'm away from home and will be having a look on my way home so don't have a chance to bring any testing equipment, but if it checks out I will leave a deposit and return with trailer and testing kit for second look before finalizing deal.

Yotabota - Not sure if its right there in front of me but I couldn't see the manual you posted?

Mickeyf - Ya that might be very much appreciated. I'm in Black Creek but headed home on the ferry tomorrow so will be having a look around 1 and then if checks out hopefully back Sunday to pick it up. Not sure yet on loading capabilities but seems likely heavier (and somewhat top heavy) for a manual load so likely need to find some equipment, going to enquire with the seller.

Again, thanks for all the comments, they're very welcome as I am relatively new to lathe's.

Also curious advice on where / how / what to look for in a quick change tool post assuming all goes well.
If you are interested, I have a QCTP I could make available for sale. I'm up in Campbell River. It's off my 12 x 36. 250-100 (AXA I think) piston. I had a newer one that didn't go with the lathe I sold when I upsized.

If you want to get together for a coffee sometime when you are in town (CR) and get a 1 minute tour of my shop (it's really small). drop me a note. I'm free most times with a bit of notice.

@Tomc938 ,

I very much appreciate that, I'll have a much better sense after laying eyes on the lathe tomorrow but I'm hopeful I will be in the market...

Either way, as we're in the same town it would be great to get together for a shop tour.

Will update after having a look.

Well, it followed me home yesterday.

Still sitting on the trailer (in the shop) so far from ready to start turning but pretty happy with it so far.

Was originally a school lathe (minor crash evidence but also minor use), then it was owned by a local foundry and then for the last 10 years by a fellow that owned a company manufacturing precision equipment, it was in his very nicely equipped home shop, he upgraded both his lathe and mill.

Was powered, we ran it through most gears and he offered me to run it through the rest but he wasn't the type of guy to have stuff that didn't work. Only thing it could use is a clutch adjustment which sounds like its a bit of a pain which he didn't do as he just ran it on the VFD and didn't really use the clutch. DRO works (glass scales I think), has what appears to be a very beefy (7hp) Baldor VFD and a digital RPM gauge. Also has a fancy 3hp all stainless steel (no maintenance, couple other aspects of note that I failed to catch) 3 phase motor.

Came with L00 spindle, bison 3 jaw, Kobayashi 4 jaw, home made indexing head, faceplate, gap still in place although may have been removed in the past, spare 3 jaw, tailstock, misc adapters and do dads, Jacobs morse 3 drill head, home-made steady rest, all the wrench's and probably some other bits and bob's I'm forgetting.

Really like how the lathe and cabinet are one unit, seems like a very rigid design.

Tom - Looks like I'm in the market for a QCTP. If you are looking to sell let me know what you have? I'm not in a panic so feel free to say so if you want to hang on to yours, I believe I have one I can use in the meantime and not even sure what I'm looking for just yet.

Thanks to all for the comments and advise.

a very good get

I saw the lathe on Saturday morning (picking up something else from the seller). It was everything one might expect from the photos, and more because the owner had put some well thought out, high quality improvements into it. I don't recall he made a big deal about this in the ad. Is its new home Campbell River?
