Found at the Dump

Anyone been following $765 Million in bitcoin case on the hard drive lost in a landfill? Apparently the guy thew out the drive accidentally on 2013. And a judge has now blocked him from searching.
Haven't been following this closely but have been following.

I get pissed if I lose 5 bucks. I'd probably off myself if I lost anywhere near so much money

Not to put too fine a point upon it, but in a LOT of cases, the concerns of the people that are labeled with that tag, are simply well aware that, for instance, placing a half-way house for sexual predators, or Housing for the Homeless, in their neighborhoods, will have a distinctly Negative effect on their families and friends. Or, as happened in my youth, the prospect of a coal fired generation plant, using coal that was about as low grade as politics...

Not every idea that is proposed, is a good one. But I would (as a citizen of British Columbia) be supportive of opening a series of Methadone clinics and homeless shelters, in, say the Mont Royal neighborhood, in Montreal. Heck, I'd pay bus fares to dump them off there! LOL! I can't be the ONLY person that recalls what happened when a busload of illegal migrants got landed on the ground at Martha's Vineyard, am I?
In the last 10 years we have migrated from a drug free society to a Free Drug society. (Of course 'free' means we all buy drugs for those who want them) BC is one of the worst excesses. What they did to buy votes was amazing.
But I do think your idea has great merit. It worked very well with the illegal immigrants when Texas shipped them to Martha's Vinyard and New York city. "Sanctuary City" played well until they had to try it out for real. Ottawa would be another good dumping ground.

We have no issues in Alberta in the counties with dump shopping. Usually the attendants will help load some thing if we need it. Now in the cities that is exactly the opposite, and maybe the problem is the local city progressive mindset. Re-use and re-cycle has been a country mindset long before the city people invented it, we just do it.
I have salvaged all my three 200 amp battery chargers, a portable compressor, a 3600 watt genset, and truckloads of brake disks and other heavy iron for the scrap metal bins. Always seem to haul out more than I dump off.
A feed mix mill that was dumped off was wanted by my friend for a soil mixer(tree farmer) The dump attendant volunteered to stay on for 2 hrs extra, so he could get his tractor and me with my trailer to load and haul it.

Two ways this story gets even better:

(1) The hard drive actually belongs to Pete Best (because he is English and Wales... but more importantly 2 near misses of that magnitude in one lifetime).

(2) The judge changes his mind, allows the guy to go search for the hard drive, and he finds it using one of these:

My father-in-law used to bring stuff home from the landfill, auctions, friends places, etc.

Now, after amassing a collection of stuff that fills multiple buildings most of it will likely go back to the landfill.

Problem is the treasure loses it's luster if you don't look after it. And you can't maintain or improve these items if you spend all your time chasing after the next treasure.

But he certainly did enjoy the collecting.

I’d laugh if it erased the drive.

Oh with that type of magnet...I bet it would have at least damaged multiple sectors...probably trashing any chance of recovering it...

Or better yet...

Its been so long that there isn't an OS that will actually run the drive and show the data...More unlikely as Linux based systems could probably crack it

You don't deserve $765m if you can't keep track of where it is.
Maybe it's easier for me cause I don't have much, but I do know, and always have known exactly where every penny is.
