Busy Bee knee Milling machine Mississauga On. $2500

Its 68" tall so your good to go.
Mine never came with a manual and I checked BusyBee's website and could not find one.

Don't sell it till the new one is set up and working. I had to use my old one to make repair parts and vise hold-downs.
No question I'm not selling until the new one is here, in place and running. Plus enough time to turn out brackets to add CNC capability.

Update: when I typed loading now I should have stated he is preparing on skid for loading.

Doing some due diligence:
1) The machine: friend inspected the machine yesterday, tells me it's filthy but in very good overall condition appears to be someones hobby machine and it's been sitting for a long time. He did not power it up, but all the ways moved freely with minimal backlash.

2) The seller: google search turned up some red flags. This guy ran a couple of businesses that both seem to have failed (I don't fault him for that), but the back stories are disturbing. The first one API racing transmissions catered to hardcore drag racers, apparently the transmissions were rated for 2000HP but anyone using one with anything approaching 1000HP could not get them to last more than a few passes. Shipping delays after being paid went on for years in some cases with a never ending list of excuses it was always shipping tomorrow but tomorrow was always tomorrow and often with you need to send more money for me to ship. The word spread and no one would touch his transmissions with a 10' pole. Business #2, V8 engines into motorcycles wth transmission he designed for application. Apparently these transmissions fail as well. Apparently the bikes were scary fast and scary unstable looks like about 15 total were made.

Seller wants e transfer before shipping. I should probably just walk away, if I do proceed it will have to be e transfer when it's loaded on the truck. Or I drive out there and pay when it's loaded. Shipping fee with tailgate is really reasonable $250 Mississauga to Ottawa. Much prefer to skip the 12 hour round trip driving.

If some body I knew really well asked me about going into business making and selling transmissions for race cars, I'd look him straight in the eye and tell him he is totally crazy. I think most people have no slightest idea how difficult that is, nor how much it costs to do it properly.

Where you like it or not this mills have backlash it is to be expected. The fact you don't notice it is good. Quill is likely the worst, hard to notice unless you really look for it. This is why I'm changing to ballscrews. I would consider this a must upgrade for any mill at some point.

There is a hardcore drag racing forum called YellowBullet, and much of what I found was on that forum. The tranny guy was claiming he was dyno testing the engines at 2000HP. It made me wonder what type of engine did he use that produces 2000HP? and I would assume if your really testing it would not be just for a few seconds. I suppose you could use a Keith Black setup IIRC on alcohol that would be maxed out at 2000HP and on NitroMethane much more power but that would be some very expensive dyno testing at 5 gallons of nitro per second plus rebuilding after every short test. Yes VERY expensive! And then everything starts breaking. Oh joy.

Well I purchased it, should be in Ottawa tomorrow. Then the fun begins.

It's supposed to slip under the garage door when it arrives tomorrow. If the measurements are wrong I will have a shop crane ready to lift the head off.

I'm going to repaint it either grey or the off white that BusyBee uses for their new Craftex machines, thoughts?

Seller commented that BBQ grill cleaner works wonders for cleaning up an old machine, has anyone tried that?

I have had great luck with POR15 paint in the past, not sure I want to wait to get some, so suggestions on a good paint are welcome.

Will post questions on disassembly as required, table will need to come off, not sure if I will try to get it down the stairs with the knee on, I imagine the knee is quite heavy and not sure about disassembly and reinstall, I guess I'm going to learn;-)

The base/body is one solid casting, must weigh 600-800 lbs? The stairs are going to get a workout, good thing I reinforced them when I moved in. I'm planning to drill a hole in the concrete floor and epoxy in a bolt or stud as an anchor near the top of the stairs, then use a come-along to slide it down on a skid plate, one piece at a time. I'm going to go slow and easy.

Congrats, and a good looking piece of loading machinery as well, lol.

I think pulling the knee would be wise, the lighter you can make parts the better for going down the stairs.

I use simple green, at 2X strength. I have heard that purple power is similar stuff and works well too. No need to inhale all those VOCs -- It can be washed with hot water and dish soap, as well - but it works slower.

If the paint is good why change it?

Going down is far easier than going up... Protect your stairs by laying 3/4 plywood on top, or do as I did recently, 2-2X8's spaced about 9" apart. you can still use the stairs but the 2X8s average the load onto more stairs and help supplement the risers. I usually use junk 2X4 and 4X4 to reinforce the middle of the stairs about 1/2 way up, just in case.

The table weighs about 80 -100 lbs. It might be easier to take off the head/swivel assembly. Fewer parts, and far more benefit...I'd guess you'd lighten it by almost 200lbs by taking the head/swivel off.

I have used oven cleaner for cleaning stuff and it works well but it will remove paint if left on long enough and will bleach out paint in a shorter time.
