The drill grabs the cloth after penetrating the sheet metal and then spills your coffee.....

Or, more likely, the sheet metal spins, grabs the rag, spills the coffee, and turns your neat tidy fastener collection in my kinda organized chaos.

Did I forget the stain on the front of your pants that looks like you pissed yourself?

Almost like you may have some experience.

I would suggest holding onto the small piece of stock so that when the drill catches as it's coming out the other side and spins around and almost takes off your finger. That way nobody notices the coffee spilled on the front of your pants because there's blood all down your front.

At least you have a rag handy.

Hahaha! Yup!

I am not neat and tidy. So I've never drilled sheet metal on a rag let alone with coffee and parts on it.

However, I have tried to drill sheet metal without clamping it and I have tried to drill cloth. So yes, I have some experience. Both nasty even without the coffee and parts!

Today, I almost always tightly clamp sheet metal and cloth between two layers of junk hard wood. It's a pain in the ass, but it results in a nice clean hole and very low risk.
