STL files now allowed as attachments

And on a similar note - Fusion360 has a team environment for project sharing and collaboration. STL, STEP, 3MF, F3D, can all be shared.

It might take some thinking about how to set it up as a resource for trusted members, but I think having a CHMW Team might be a valuable asset for the community.

If theres enough interest, I would be willing to moderate a Fusion Team environment for the group.

I've never used the team environment, but for threads where there is a group design build of items like steam engines, it may be a great resource. I'm keen

Those with personal use acccounts only have basic access to collaboration.

Basic Access only allows viewing and downloading projects. To collaborate on the cloud in a Team Hub or project, all accounts involved must be on a Commercial, Start-Up, Educational, or trial.

That sucks.

Maybe autodesk would let chmw be educational? For non commercial activity. We could form a study group, have a recurring fusion “lesson” and chmw cad certificate.

Sadly, we do not meet any of their numerous educational or charitable criteria. Either as students, educational institutions or instructors.

It is possible to collaborate online without using the autodesk tools. I've been doing it for years in the 2D cad realm. It is just slower. File sharing here goes a long way towards helping members collaborate more easily.

Of course the system shoudl be modified to allow the upload of .f3d files too

I dug into this a bit more and it appears a CHMW team is not likely....

A named fusion user can currently only create one Team Hub. So, since you have already created a hub you can not create a second.

Two options:
create a new Autodesk ID for as you account to ADMIN the cloub. using that account Buy a Fusion Team ($195 a year) https://www.autodesk.com/products/fusion-360/team-participant?term=1-YEAR&tab=subscription
Create the hub and then using the admin tools create a group for multiple club admins. Invite these users and you personal account.

Create a Club users group and invite the 1000+ plus club members.

enjoy.,..

Second option is to find another admin who has not yet created a hub. Could be hard to find... and have them create the hub. I would not recommend this.

In either scenario make sure you have a group set as admins . In both options realize that a single user owns the hub and therefore could remove access or delete the hub taking all data with it. Your club might want to consider, pooling some money to buy the license and having a trusted group of people in control.

:(

This is true. Just a simply way to share. For collaboration we use teams. One you can use for cheap is discord.
I've been on a few discords, I find them hard to follow and rather disjointed, but maybe that is just lack of experience using them

That said, a discord may offer far better features for collaboration than xenforo? I dont know.

I'm on Discord CNC and 3D printing channels and yes the constant stream of message can appear to be disjointed. I have used the search function to great success. I've also noticed that some channels have implemented dedicated support sections which creates 'ticket' like items with associated responses.

Oooh support ticket system may be nice. That said I was able to find the resources I needed on discord to design my cnc router... better than other resources I tried.

But I'm happy to suffice with sharing fusion files of components, and letting users modify the part to test and then returning a modified component to me to add to the master project file... at least for the grinder modification.

If we are interested in a collaboration and file sharing system, then Google Classroom might be exactly what is needed.

I used a much more complex commercial version of this at UFV for assignments, file sharing and online teaching. Its free, reasonably secure and non-invasive.

Each project area can be a class with an instructor and a pool of students (team members). Google drive can be used as a document store and the comments/feedback/conversations are permanent.

It is asynchronous, so those with poor connections can still use it (Susquatch).
I have created a classroom with a starter project on Google Classroom called CHMW University. If you would like an invite, ping me and I'll send the link.

Thoughts?

Never heard of it but that does look like a good resource if someone on the forum wanted to host a mini training seminar or class or any kind of 'share'. Zoom & similar is ok for live meetings but the sharing of docs among participants is a bit more involved & AFAIK unless you have a subscription, limited in duration or participants or something along those lines. OK, who's first? How about VFD-s For Dummies lol
