This. @Titusak this is the kind of lathe that should be available for a reasonable price. might even go for 1500 bucks - and only 3 1/2 hours away.

I bought my big mill 10 hours away, this is close to you!
+1

given the location the odds of one of the usual dealers grabbing them is somewhat less. The multiples mean that there is a chance that they will all sell lower than otherwise. I agree with Dabbler. You may be able to score one for $1500 or even less, but you'd still be looking good if you paid $2000.

What is the table top lathe that is at the same auction? table top lathe is in Windsor.

There are also 2 excello variable speed mills and a standard modern radial arm drill all with starting bids of $1000 at this same auction.

That is enough to attract a dealer with large transport availability

Ahhhhhhh !
I wish I had place in the basement for something this big, because it seems like a very good deal ! :/
I would need a smaller model, but thank you very much @Dabbler ! It's very much appreciated !

I just went to check the sold prices and there is nothing showing under "sold".
There were no bids the last time I checked so I think the ads were pulled. I expect they will be re-advertised shortly.
I wonder if you went to the school board and asked if they'd sell a person a machine.

Go prepared and you might be surprised, don't hum and haw to much. If they can process it, it can be pretty quick. If not you may have to go through the facilities manager to release it. Most are released as non operable, usually under safety. This is how I got my lathe. When schools write stuff off they want it gone now. Where I work if it is listed for auction they can not sell it out right as they do not want to have a mistake made. Nightmare scenario for a facilities manager having something not there if it goes in an auction. But they likely have more lathes and equipment waiting to go in up coming auctions or even the bin. Our facilities manager likes equipment so he made sure everything being written off went to someone. Some do not they write off and bin it, its easier for them. Lots of variables. But it never hurts to try and like I said it may work out well for you.

This is not the first time I've seen gov auction items with higher minimum bid prices go unsold.

In every case the items did not get relisted. I suspect they were presold as a lot but they had to go through the process of trying to obtain the highest bid. I may be wrong here, but I dont think so

Hum...
So I talked to a friend who might be able to store it until I clean the basement (and change the circuit board, because with all the machinery I want to buy, I might need 220v)
I wonder, those lathe, can they be used without the bench ? Can they separate ? I might phone the school and ask if they are still available. Who knows !

Couldn't find the Soo policy but the Halton District School Board policy, for example, has options for disposing of surplus assets. When selling, it directs that 'Surplus Assets' SHALL be sold by auction. Since they were bought with public money it would be a breach of trust to let the asset go for less than fair market value. The HDSB policy references 5 other different policies including 2 related to ethics.

Are games played sometimes? Probably. But it would be taken seriously if discovered.

No reason why not. My 1120 was available in a bench or cabinet mount, you just need to relocate the electrical into a box. My 1120 has the electrical box mounted on a plate that is bolted to the headstock.

Do you have 2 slots together on your breaker panel? Just run a power line to it or plug into the dryer socket push comes to pull.
