So what are you making her for Mother’s Day?

Not right this day but recent enough to be considered appropriate...does six weeks ago count....the rubber plug for the bathroom sink cracked so I cut a new plug out of alum. and cut a groove for an O-ring...works!!!
Also, just to "double build" some brownies, last week the spring loaded latch for our screen door broke in half...would have been a 1/2 hr trip to town to buy a new one but that wasn't happening....instead, I milled a new latch from a scrap of alum, took me a full day to do it manually...just added to the "mothers day" account beautifully, she's blissfully smiling happily and so am I.
 
I had planned to go work on my future shop, but have bee redirected to help re-organize her office. In my mind that means, I can purchase another tool. Yesterdays acquisition does not count due to it being prior to Mothers day.
 
Well, I started this a couple months ago as part of Rustinox's #coathanger2020 challenge but because it took until a few days ago due to life stuff it became her Mother's Day gift, lol. It's a coat rack with a lamp made mostly from used heavy truck parts and some scrap I had. She was part of the design process from the start so she was quite tickled for it.

As the steer axle drum is about 97 lb, the whole assembly would be about 115 lb I would guess. At least with a heavy base our 3-year-old son is unlikely to dump it on himself. Not to say he isn't creative . . .

That turned out great!
 
I’m working on a little box to hold her salt and pepper mills. First thing I had to do was learn how to do box joints. I honestly didn’t know wood guys would work in 0.001” but it does make a difference.
Heres a pic of the prototype. The joints are too tight so had to adjust the jig by 0.002”.

Few days ago I helped dad build a hammock stand out of some gas pipe. Had to turn down some pipe to use as connecting rod. longest pieces I did in a while at around 20". Used my Colchester which maxed out at that length.
