Shooting Star DRO

Looking for any spare parts for a Shooting Star dro . I'm trying to put a workable system together for my mill. Thanks for looking.

Might be an idea to state what parts you need.

As I recall, most of that system was made up of the guts of a couple computer mice, linked to a longer than average Rack.

Pretty neat stuff when it was new, but rapidly made completely obsolete, by cheap import DRO's

You might get some hits on Hobby Machinist Forum in want ad section. I suspect if it was like many things, he probably sold 8/10 systems to USA; bigger machinist population. Hopefully someone has some parts in a box looking for love.

I am looking for anything that came with the kit, the readout, rack, etc. Thanks
I'm very confused. From your earlier postings and the pm's you sent me, I thought you just needed a small piece of rack. (Which is in the mail, now.) What do you have?

Cool!

My Shooting Star DRO seems to work pretty well. To test it, I've used the edge finder to locate a particular point and then traverse the table over and back by several inches. When I come back and edge find the same point, the measurement has been within 1/2 thou of the original. Well within my margin of error!

That was my experience as well. It filled a market niche for many years when the options were 2-3K$ industrial name with ungainly big scales for hobby size machines vs 0$ counting dial readings & directional backlash... But the world has changed. For similar cost there are many good options. But, when you have something that works, it just needs some key parts to make it go, its a frustrating situation.
