Not sure of what to make of the handwheel looks like some kind of funky repair job.
The rest looks good..

I've seen a few SM lathes of this size and era that had this funky tapered dual spoke arrangement rather than the usual 3 or 4 spoke wheels.

I'm not sure if there is anything wrong with this wheel or that the pic is just poor. But it bears close inspection if anyone goes to view this lathe

Yup, that is how SM made them. The taper spokes are to counter balance the handle on the opposite side.

(For laughs & giggles I chucked my carriage hand wheel into the lathe when I was refurbishing my SM1340. No vibrations whatsoever at even 1200 rpm…)

Here is a picture of the hand wheel of my lathe (now sold).
