Finally, a lathe worthy of you "hobbyists". :D

Ok I'm going to spout off about this and will probably be flamed by many but...

The seller will not likely get the asking price in my opinion. The lathe is too big for any "hobbyist" and more importantly likely far out of budget for a hobbyist . On the the other end of things, I think any industry that would really require the capacity of such a lathe would be looking for more modern or there are also likely cheaper options for a lathe of that size.

Flame suit on.

The ad is for a Modern Tool lathe not a Standard Modern.

The price is out to lunch IMO. Not sure what that exact lathe sells for new but you can get a similar size machine for 36k new.

Im well aware the difference, I was just posting a comparable lathe price and why the asking price might not be too terrible.

I am no expert but slightly smaller lathe sold in Calgary about a month ago for under 6000 with tooling.

Nope. I think the seller is on crack!

Because of the size, it has limited audience.

IF the seller finds exactly the RIGHT audience, maybe he will get what he thinks it is worth. But probably not!

Found new for 32,000 USD -https://machineryone.com/products/gmc-26-x-60-heavy-duty-precision-gap-bed-lathe-mdl-gml-2680

Found new for 30k - https://www.penntoolco.com/birmingham-high-speed-precision-gap-bed-lathe-26-x-80-ycl-2680/

Found for under 23k - https://www.madisonmachinetool.com/...n_Gap_Bed_Lathe_with_4-1/8"_Spindle_Bore.html

And finally, our own, Stan Canada... for 25,000 ... CAD (!!!)

Above is available in the US for 21,000 USD - https://www.ebay.com/itm/264978239160

There is no WAY anyone is paying more for USED lathe than for a new one ;)

If I needed one I would offer $6000 CASH. Maybe if the paint stripped of it is not indicating condition - say in excellent shape, max 10,000. You can get such lathes used for under $10000 from a dealer. For $10000 it better be in "like new" condition.

Those linked lathes are actually larger capacity lathes in terms of swing and length than the subject lathe. The kijiji lathe states it's a 24" swing and 66" between centers. Yet the lathe model is a 2680???

However the ad also states it has a HUGE 6" through the spindle hole.....maybe this justifies some of the high price?

Ohhh man could I have ever used that baby at one time in my "hobby machining"....the reality of it tho, is that I could never have afforded the amount of Black Powder to charge the size cannon I would've built....but sure would have let the neighbors know I was still alive & well!!

Nah other lathes were also 2680 model. It is D1-11. Same one I saw on sale in Calgary few weeks ago for 6000 with tooling. I say 6000 is OK price for this lathe. 10000 is if it is in excellent condition.
