We're selling a car right now. It's priced below normal price(-4k less than what dealers are asking), no accidents and it has low millage 45k for a 2018). We have had one legitimate visit/offer and about 10 fraudulent/ looser offers, we are living in a different world from five years ago.

what make and model?

So many scams! All new 2024 or 2025 accounts, unusual names, no friends on their profile, other desirable items, multiple listing locations, too good to be true pricing-lots of flags once you start knowing how to identify them. It’s a crazy world.

I'm starting to get pissed at the tire kickers, who want me to hold it til they get here in a few days.
I'm starting to ask for 30% non refundable deposit if you ask to hold it.

99/100 will bail if they ask you to hold it for x amount of days.

Not worth your time.

I had a guy deposit $300 (I suggested $100) and waited 10 days. Guy showed up paid balance. I met him in person when he placed a deposit. Had a chat. So I guess I am in 1/100 ;)

This is not the first time - I have like 30% of all sales with deposit and pick it up later.

Yes, guys that are willing to send a deposit typically always show up.

Most scammers ask for a deposit though, so that's a slippery slope

I have had guys send me full payment, sometimes over $1000 sight unseen for a big compressor or other things. Different people take different risks. I've sent small deposits or full payments on my way to pick up items as well.

My facebook has nothing, only set up to scan marketplace, so by the common criteria I could look like a scammer.

I narrowly avoided being scammed recently from an FB clown with a few hundred friends. Looked again a few days later and 10 friends. Not sure what happened, if i'm losing it or if that can be spoofed. Lot's odd about the interaction though. Very aggressive and wanting PP F&F. Said no way and he surprisingly agreed to PP for goods if I paid the extra. There was enough wrong with the process that I got the creeps - like I asked for a phone number and instead of giving it, he replies :yes", then five minutes later gives a number ..... like he need 5 to get a burner. I passed and few days later learned the photos where from an ebay listing in the Netherlands.

Still don't know how he was going to get around PP buyer protect, but no doubt there was some line coming.
