Melting chips for casting into usable stock

Hey,

What can the group tell me about saving chips and melting them down for re-use?

My particular question is: I have been saving my chips, but they're mixed materials (aluminum, steel, little bit of brass) etc.

Is this pile of mixed chips worth trying to melt down?
Should I be separating chips by type in future?
What about coolant on the chips? Just burns off?

I tried that seperating the scrap aluminum while it did work there was lots of dross.
