Machine Rollers

Picked up an old Hillman and a Multiton machine skates the other day. 10 ton rating on each. They each have the bulldozer style tracks. I could loan these out to local members (Niagara) or farther if you want to come borrow them if you need to move a machine. I also have a couple other Multiton roller units from my father.

I will note, that I had a potentially life threatening occasion, using four of these to move a mill across a floor that was NOT nearly as level as it felt when walking over it.

Nothing to get yer heart going, like seeing one of the skates decide to outrun the milling machine it was supposed to have perched upon it. It came to nought but very accelerated heart rates, but I figure its worth passing the experience on. I figure wiring the skates in place, or simply arranging a couple layers of foam rubber between the skate and the machine tool, would have saved us a LOT of existential Angst that day!

We were moving slowly enough that we were able to stop it in place as soon as the skate, well, skated out, but we all saw the possibilities!

Think the move through, plan around what escape route you might need in a 'falling machine' situation. Dead is a long time, so is Crippled! Stay safe

Martin, I know you can do all the planning but still little things can pop up. I have my big thickness planer on giant casters. Once in motion it wants to stay in motion…
