I love this kind of astronomy stuff. In fact building a super sized telescope is one of my potential metal working projects brewing in the back of my mind for years. Unfortunately I live in a place where the light pollution is so bad you can hardly see any stars or meteors for that matter.

I read a while ago you can use mercury as a mirror while spinning it to get a different focal point if I remember correctly
