Kurt vise reversed jaws?

I have a real Kurt D40 so perhaps I can help. The jaws extend slightly above the top of the vise body so they can be used to grip something (minimal grip height) even when the jaws are reversed. In my case I replace the usual jaws with ones with Mitee-Bite Talon Grips (https://www.miteebite.com/products/talongrip/) on their tops.
If I am permitted, it is apparent to me that @slowpoke is under the impression that the entire fixed and moveable blocks are reversed for some applications.
However, I think the other comments are about just reversing the jaw itself. This is the norm in my opinion. Often, one side of the jaw is flat, and the other side has vertical and/or horizontal V slots to hold round or cylindrical parts. Sometimes multiple slots for more grip. I've even seen jaws that look like they are checkered on one side and flat on the other.
That said, I have also seen vises where the entire block is reversible for inside clamping.
Once is a blue moon you see three stacked jaws too.

Most definitely. I’m looking at work holding option as I progress down the CNC route.
I just checked and it appears that my last purchase was in 2018!!! from Saunders Machine Works, 4 for us$51.96. I ordered other stuff at the time and I didn't shop around for the best price. I believe that Shars has them.

I didn't think about how the jaws extend above the vise.
I have a set of soft jaws (slightly taller than the factory jaws and yet to be installed), so I will try installing them on the outside. This should reduce how often I need to lug the heavier vise onto the table, so big thanks for that.
Moving right along on the vise questions, my free with the mill 5" vise looks like a Taiwan type 5" is missing its jaws. Bolt spacing appears to be about 3.1" is there any bolt spacing standard?
Does anyone recognize this brand and suggestions for replacement jaw source?
I doubt that there is any "standard" and sadly there is often no mention of the distance between mounting holes in adverts for jaws. As one data point, the 5-inch jaws from Monster Jaws (https://monsterjaws.com/5-vise-jaws/ ) fit the Tormach 5-inch vise that is made in Taiwan.
Well, Glacern lists 3.125" between holes for their 5" if you measured 3.1" something that seems to confirm. https://www.glacern.com/gsv_550
Same for the Shars 550V - they list 3.125" between the holes https://www.shars.com/5-550v-cnc-milling-machine-vise-0-0004-1 (pretty sure this is a copy of the Glacern who copied someone else...)
but - Shars also has some vises that look alot more like the one you show and they have a far less definitive statement that the holes are 2.99" apart (probably a conversion from 76mm)
If you want hard jaws, most available sets will cost you more than that vise cost new (Glacern are $119 US). I recommend just using some aluminum jaws on it. Make them yourself and be done.

Now I'm sidetracked and excited to discover the concept of jaws with pins to setup a part at an angle, no more messing with angle blocks that slide around on you.
