It's amazing that these guys have any time for machining.

The video below is about the shop/workspace for the youtube channel "The Thought Imporium" a Canadian science based channel that does some pretty rad machining when they have to. When I was growing up in the (very) early 60s, I read a lot of "Tom Swift Jr" a Sci-Fi rich kid that had a lab for everything, essentially an inventor of anything under the sun.

These guys are the real deal. This is the workspace I really wanted as a kid. Enjoy!

SPOILER: they ave a beautiful Colchester (I think the big brother to one that @RobinHood rebuilt...)

As a kid, I drew up the plans for a submarine made out of oil drums with an electrolysis oxygen generator, hand operated rudder and elevators, and a bicycle chain drive propeller. I was busy gathering parts when my precious plans mysteriously disappeared. I cried myself to sleep for weeks. Years later I learned that my mom had wisely burned them.

Tom Swift was one of my envies too.

Much as I might dream of a lab like that or like Dan Gelbart's, it will never be. My "lab" is just a bunch of "old junk" my wife and kids will give away for less than I told them I paid for it.

Then again, I love my old junk and I am never happier than when I am busy making useful things out of useless things.
