I found this it compares vinegar, citric acid, evaporust, against a home brewed comparable to the evaporust.

 
His video is excellent - especially about rendering your home solution near to neutral, to avoid leeching the base metal.
 
I soaked a 30-06 seating die in evaporust, not good, put a black coating on the die. I assume it took the rust off, the black coating resists removal. Otherwise i like the stuff.
