Help please! 10" Royal Shaper, and that's all I know...

Hello there! (My first post!)

I need to get rid of my late father's 10" Royal (made in England) Shaper. I've finally found some information about this tool at lathes[dot]co[dot]uk/royalshaper.
But I don't have any idea what it's worth, where to sell/donate it, or any more information than what you see here.

This beast is at least 600lbs, looks like it belongs in a museum, and it currently resides in the Okanagan (British Columbia).

I would greatly appreciate any sanity check on details, advice, year, reasonable (needs-to-move) price... then I'll turn this into a "For Sale" post!

Thanks indeed for your time,
blitz :)

Welcome! That's a nice looking little shaper!

Shaper pricing is kinda strange. It's an old school machine that has basically been replaced by the faster and more versatile milling machine.

But there are some niche things it does better. And it has total "old school cool" written all over it.

The smaller shapers are worth more than the larger ones because they take up less space and are so (comparatively) light.

If this was a hobby machine and your Dad didn't abuse it, that's worth a little extra. And the used tool market is kinda slim in the West, so that is also in your favour.

There are others here that have bought/sold shapers more recently than me and will be able to give you a better idea.

Good luck with your sale. With something like this you know it will go to a good home.

I would think you could get 1000 pretty easy, its smaller so more amenable to hobbyists. Martin said hes having a hard time selling his 20" for 1100 -

Big one for 1200usd still for sale

Then a little 6" went for 1500

Welcome to the forum, and I am sorry for the loss of your dad.
Accessories are what will bring up the price. As pictured with no vise and tooling, I would think around the $750-$1000 area. If there's other things included, the price could sneak up to close to $2000 providing it runs as well as it looks and how much goes with it.
