Hi

I discovered this forum by accident when I was searching for information / parts, and after reading for a bit decided I should to join.

I am a civil engineer by training, a computer software and hardware specialist in the financial industry by profession, and now, for the first time since high school, a metal working hobbiest.

I have read many of the threads in the archives with interest, and look forward to being able to contribute and ask questions of my own!

Welcome from Southern Alberta. From your training/interests it sounds like you'll enjoy hanging around here and we will enjoy having you aboard! It's quite amazing how diversified the talent and hobbies of our members are.

I'm so sorry to hear that you live in Toronto. But we won't hold that against you and will do our best to help you overcome that major challenge. You are on the right path already. A bigger shop someplace far from Toronto will do wonders. :D

Welcome from farm country South of Chatham Ontario.

Thank you! I live in Toronto
My condolences..... But like @Susquatch said above, we'll try and not hold it against you........
Welcome from Lillooet BC, (well actually, a camper on a jobsite in the middle of nowhere, no cell service and sketchy wifi at certain times of the day, at the moment).
Must be a popular profession, 'cause I think every one of us is a financial advisor....... Just wait until you ask what you should buy next for your new mill/lathe#shaper......

I never expected so many welcomes - thank you all!

I think what @whydontu means when he says no all caps is to keep it civil. If folks are upset enough to want to use all caps, it's probably a good idea to sleep on it instead. We try hard here not to offend each other. Just enjoy yourself, read the rules, and stay clear of emotional subjects like politics. I wouldn't moderate a post with All Caps in it unless it was, or could be, considered offensive to another member.

Jeez, I hate having a ping-pong conversation in text. You can't see me waving my arms around...

It wasn't a new rule I was proposing, I was trying to get across that we don't tend to get into ALL CAPS arguments, although, to be fair, it can get pretty heated when we discuss our favourite style of parting tool.

Parting tools. Now them's fight'n words!
Edit: Corrected spelling...
