I know several of us have similar PF drives. Blondihacks did a disassembly, so might be a resource one day. I'm not very electrically proficient but some interesting discussion on the board components & design in the comments section. Now I'm also curious if an Align brand is any different.

 
Interesting, most of that was actually above my head and I only grasp the most basic of the explanation, but it was interesting and helpful in understanding my p.f. and also why it was so cheap.
 
The breadth and depth of Quinn's knowledge is pretty damn impressive. One glance at a circuit board and recognizes it as 70's vintage and understands exactly how it works. What did she call it...a 'neon light' trick?
