Product Favourite Tap & Drill chart

I just reorganized my mini-workshop (moved the lathe and a bunch of cabinets). My internet scrounged and plain paper decimal equivalent and tap & drill charts are looking a little rough so now would be a good time to find a preferably laminated set.

I like the content on the "Little Machine Shop" T&D charts because it shows drill sizes for Steel vs. aluminum, so any chart missing that feature is a no-go.

So post your favourite charts and I will start eBay searching. I suppose if I find a good one in .pdf format I can have it lamentated.

This is what I have now.....

I like the KBC one, with both metric and imperial. The Little Machine Shop one is easier to read.

If you have an Android Phone, you cannot beat "Tap & Drill Calculator". No more charts on the wall at all. I keep it handy in a folder of Machining Apps.

You choose tap style at the top drop down. Then material from the 2nd drop down. Then hit the metric or imperial tabs. It gives this screen which is what a wall chart would show. But don't stop reading here, scroll down for the real gold!

Touch the desired fastener, say 1/4-20, and get this screen:

Every one of these lines is what all the nearby drill sizes gives you for a 1/4-20 thread. I LOVE the percent thread!

That's as deep as you can "DRILL" down but just imagine how many wall charts you would need to get the equal of all that info!

All my wall charts for threading are gone. In case you are wondering, the app goes from #0-80 to 1"-12 & M1.6-.35 to M27-2.

I do wish it went to a little bigger threads than 1" & M27, but then again, who has big huge drills in little increments?

Good idea. After years of grabbing the sharp end flutes, even more fun when they stubbornly resist coming out to play, maybe I will try flipping mine so the shank is up.

I guess since I’m currently one-handed I could flip all of the drill bits in my indexes (indices?); I’ll need my wife to lift out the 115 pcs sets.

A few years ago I posted my own chart of drill sizes, in increasing size order for the 4 types of drill systems commonly available - numbered, lettered, fractional and metric. I find I use the chart a lot. Sorry, but my focus was not on identifying tap drill sizes - for that I have a chart from some local dealer that hangs on my entry door, and works well even though it is not as clever or sophisticated as some others mentioned here. My chart is sized to print out well on legal paper. See the attached file if you want a copy for yourself. Cheers, Brian
