You know, where you slept like utter garbage, woke up feeling like someone beat you with a bat while you slept and you woke up feeling worse than you went to bed?

Yeah, that's my average day. So this is my 5 o'clock regimen

One of these:

Followed by a chaser of this, then a quick 15 minute nap.

That's a flat white and an single shot espresso if you're interested.

I start the day with a flat white as well.

Yah, I'm an insomniac so its my habit to get up and take some of my numerous medications at 2AM. Not allowed to drink coffee or alcohol either! For me getting old is a huge PITA!

I didn't even have to make it to old age for health issues to become a huge pain... but they sure got worse as I got older. I gave up cigars, pipes and most alcohol now. If I had to give up coke and coffee I'd just pack it in instead.

A side effect of taking certa for ADHD, making about 20 or 30 espressos until the balance of grind, fill weight, time of extraction make an acceptable and repeatable double shot, which just gets blended with milk anyways. Too much focus but sleep, or wake up at 3:30 AM and debate world affairs with yourself until 8

My wife wont let me have a counter top grinder. I have a japanese hand operated grinder.

That’s commitment, I opted for a medium range grinder with 60 settings from Turkish powder at 1 to espresso range between 7 -10.My wife is used to the episodes and doesn’t mind me being fixated on Coffee, better than sitting in a Casino for days playing Pai Gow poker.

nothing fancy. Also correction, made in china and not japan as I'd thought. Hario Mini-Slim Plus Grinder, I bought it for taking camping along with an aero press cuz the breville doesn't fit in my pocket

I may as well pass along a tip for frothing milk the down and dirty way. No espresso maker with frothing wand required. No real special equipment required.

For a flat white I fill a 250 ml mason jar just over half full of milk. I cap it with a lid and shake it like homer shaking bart by the neck for about 45 seconds. Then I remove the cap and zap it in the microwave for 40 seconds. I put the lid on again and reshake for 15 seconds.

Then I pour the mostly foam milk into my mug and draw a shot of espresso over the top. On the road I press a short pour of coffee from the aero press.

More tips, dont ever use mugs or coffee makers in hotel room, and never get a room without a microwave, and bring your own bedding.

I'm deflated. I was so anticipating maybe a hammer finish fill bowl, a Damascus Shirogami Nokozai steel grinding blade, maybe a Mitutoyo made dial for graduated coarseness setting... Phft! LOL
blades burn beans

burr grinder. ceramic

Maybe I can make one at the same time I do my new tamper with stainless steel and wenge

I can make the upper hopper SS and the grinder base wenge... Insert the burr into the hopper. new crank and cover too...

I've had a Baratza Encore for quite a few years & even that took some convincing to justify. I've heard about burn, but if it there, its beyond my Neanderthal taste buds. They call it a burr, not a blade. I do like my coffee (espresso beans) but I'm too cheap to ever be a connoisseur. The number of cups I (used to) drink furrows my GP's eyes. But the paint thinner at work is so bad its becoming self compensating reduction. I drink now less & look forward to weekends.

Out here on the farm i just rely on my trusty Keurig. I would be lost without it, first thing i do is fire it up and have a cup before going out to stumble around the cow turds looking for babies.

Update.

Well i got back from doing my rounds, 1 baby sledded into the warm room. Next time the doc asks me if i get enough exercise i will invite them out to help.

Hope your having a fruitful season been some $hitty weather, if I remember correctly always a few cows that would always pick the coldest snowiest day to have their calves.

This is one of the coldest calving seasons i can remember, not horrible temps but cold enough that you have to be around constantly. Fortunately i have good facilities for cold weather calving, used to be in the purebred business so calving started early January.
