Is that because they are loose in a container together? I as so I know what to watch out for in the future.

Yes: if I have miscellaneous dull/chipped used taps/end mills (I only keep drill bits as HSS stock) I’ll store them in a heap, If they are sharp & usable I will protect them from “jostling” each other.
