Hmm to be honest I didn't catch that either, part of me is wondering if maybe it's still worth it, not maybe for $400, just to get a feel for it sooner than waiting for the next reasonably priced machine, but hard to say

It possibly won't take very long to outgrow and want/need something with more room and swing.

All depends on what direction you're going, the hobby can take hold and leave you always wanting for more and that's where we (forum members) come in, to help you spend your money. :D

Haha

It comes with nothing other than what's shown in the image and he is firm at $400 still worth it? Think that if I want to upgrade in the future I could get most of the $ back out? I am on the fence due to the smaller size

7x8 significantly cools my jets.

I'd want to know more definitively what I planned to use it for before I'd jump at that chance..... You might be gunna lose 5 inches putting a drill chuck and drill in there. But maybe that is a misnomer and he is wrong about the size.

Tbh I think you will outgrow a 7x8 or 7x12 equally fast. And if you don't, then either will do equally well.

How much you invest to them is the huge difference. I doubt this lathe would be hard to sell for $400 anytime in the future. A 7x12 I'd probably more want to be ~$600 purchase price to not lose money when you resell.

Is it a buy once cry once? Nope, but the less you pay for the first once makes it an easier upgrade down the line.

It's easy to buy, upgrade, and grow into equipment. Providing you buy at a low enough price to not get stuck losing your shirt

from the photo that machine looks to have much more than 8" when the tail stock is moved back to the end of the bed and that is with the chuck installed, you could add 3" to the usable space when using C-C with a lathe dog drive.
