Coolant?

My coolant has gone all weird. It reads 3.5% on the brix meter so about half the strength it should be yet it's all gummy and thick. It's 13 months old. Is this just what happens and it's time to drain the tank and put in a new batch? I've kept it within the right range generally by adding a 1% top up mix like they tell you to do. @Tom O how often do you change it on your machine?

Usually the coolant becomes richer over time due to evaporation but this time it went the other way?

Your coolant may have a bacterial infection. If you suspect your coolant, the easiest thing is to change it.

In our school shop in the 1970s, we never used soluable oil because it tended to get a staff infection in it (this was Ontario). You could tell because you'd get a rash on your skin if it got on you....

If its gummy its "tramp oil" - needs change. Soluable oil is great in the winter months but seems to struggle through summer.

13 months is ok life for coolant. Generally speaking you should clean out your coolant tank and replace the coolant annually

So what is the best way to dispose of it hazardous goods at the landfill?
