A rotary phase converter and transformer can be had for a few grand. A single phase 240-600v transformer can be had for a grand or two. Then the lathe could be ran with a drive and the controls tapped off separately. There’s a few ways to do it for a few grand if a guy was motivated and had 100a of 1ph 240/120 at his shops disposal.

Where there’s a will (and a few hundred dollar bill$$$) there’s a way.

I’ve seen some bigger machines hooked up in what the guys wife probably thought should be her 1 car garage.
