Hello everyone I’ve been looking real hard for machine length/ stubby cobalt m35/m42 fractional set
I see there a set of cobalt jobber length cle line on amazon for $207
there’s also Viking mechanics set but not cobalt

but the most interesting looks like made in USA called champion

does anyone have experience with these bits
Again I’m looking for full set
1/16-1/2 “
Thanks

Might be a terminology thing but I think the machinist supply places distinguish 'stub length' & 'jobber length'. Jobber is kind of the standard length, stub are shorter.

I've heard of 'screw length' which are for screw machines, shorter but the same as stub? Not sure, might be other flute features?
Not sure if machine length is shorthand for 'screw machine length'?
I've noticed short ones may not have the 118-deg point like jobbers, often wider like 135-deg. Again, not sure if in screw machines/cnc specific & they just drill without a pre spot drill & that's why?

Give Red Deer Bolt a call.

I buy the champion full sets (non cobalt) from them at the red deer Agri-trade show but haven’t been for a few years

Hopefully they are still in business and maybe they can get the cobalt sets? Might not be the same brand ....

Ya those are the ones that are on amazon!! So your pretty impressed at drilling hard materials/ stainless etc ?

So Project Farm on youtube did a little study on drill bits. The guy did standard tests as far as drilling ability in metal vs. speed, how long the last etc. All done with a bit less then laboratory setting (he has standard weights etc.)

The winner was made in China DeWalt and Bosch.

He tested 10 different sets, cheap to expensive.

Here is the link:
Here is the set I have (I got it few years ago for like 80 or 90) https://www.amazon.ca/DEWALT-DWA126...03475603&sprefix=dewalt+drill,aps,189&sr=8-10

Carbide drill bits are very expensive - I have few dozen and all I got used. Expect to pay > $200 for a new 1/2" drill.

There lasted me longer than anything I owned previously, and learning to self sharpen has kept them going

A machinist who I bought some tools and bits from showed me baggies(sorted to sizes) of drill bits he had picked out of the garbage can at a shop he worked at in the lower mainland. Young guys would toss them and get a new one from the crib so he took them and bought one of those drill doctors and sharpened them all up. He said the Drill Doctor worked great on small bits.

Ya I got my eye on the drill dr 750x however I really want to master free hand first maybe the general tool drill jig is better but I don’t think it’s set up to regrind a split point
I had to sharpen a few Walter sst+ cobalt with portable grinder without a trigger lock that’s quite hard to do a accurate job I got it sharp but legs are different length and split point gone

I have a 750 that will do split point but I've never used it yet for any as the Cle-line set and misc split points I have are like new. Project Farm did testing on drill sharpeners and the General jig and the DD 750 both did well
