yes, they are broaches to make keyways.
For sure square broaches. Use them for key ways, making square holes, making rectangular slots, etc. They work very well, used them quite a bit - both on the shaper and on the mill.
Just curious...are these intended to cut the full width of the keyway at once? (Stepping down to the desired depth.) The larger one looks like it might be 1/2 inch wide. That would be a pretty intense chip coming off!For sure square broaches. No, I myself have not but my keyway cutting has been limited since I’ve had the shaper. From what others are saying though you’re on the right track. I’m eagerly awaiting the results…have you ever cut keyways on your shaper with this kind of tool?
Good to know it works, but wouldn't it make more sense to use it for an INSIDE keyway in a "donut" (can't think of what the proper word would be" On a shaft or square piece traditional tools and setup would work. Inside you don't have the clearance, so this set up would make sense.
Is there not a maker’s mark on the tools? - or maybe I am thinking of other tooling…
Here is a company that sells carbide inserted tooling for shapers. They also post prices.
