My new acetylene tank has a male thread. My old fuel regulator also has a male thread. Is there some sort of adapter I need to buy now? Please view the picture and let me know what I need to make this work.
The valve on your tank should be a CGA510 female. Looks like you have the CGA510 male on your regulator and your tank. I would talk to someone like OXYPRO to see if there is an adapter or if you need to change your valve.
This is what i have on my tank/regulator
You can just make out the valve/connector type if you zoom in.
Ugh. Oxypro. Prepare to pay and pay. Last time I called them they said a 135cu argon fill was $169 but today I can do it for $139. Jerks. $65 at kms. And that’s high. Both locations now suck. The other oxypro location charged me $35 for a spool 11lb of 0.35 mig wire. It’s $22 at kms right now.
Look online. Know your prices if you have to go there.
changing the valve is not an option because the tank is full and i bough this at KMS. They don't refill acetylene tanks they just exchange your old tank for a new one. this worked in my favour because my old tank was expired anyways. I'll buy the adapter the idea of machining a one off part with left hand internal threads and a special mating surface makes me cringe.
I don't Rember I think maybe $100. They did not seem to mind that the tank was a lease from somewhere. They said if it is the same size we will take it. Now I have the exchange program cylinder. I'll go back next time I need a fill up. They did make me get my oxygen tank certified because they just refill that tank at KMS.
Yes I buy gas there. Argon. C25. The tanks seem a little pricey but I don’t know where else to go to spend less. There’s another thread on this. Renting at $10/month is the same as buying after 27 months. For a 110cu ft tank $280.
Can you post a photo of the front of the valve? I may know what CGA fitting it is that you need, but will need to check with my purchaser at work to source them.
