While it started out as a collection of woodworkers meeting up to swap tools, it has developed into a very divers meet up of makers. There is even a resident blacksmith (Old Soldier Toolworks). The Last couple of years there has been a Hand Scraping demo, a VFD set up demo, and even a furnace casting demo.
This year, I will be setting up tent and doing a demo (my first ever), showing how to make a pen from a kit.

Heres a link to the info page and registration. While the event is free, registration lets them know how many people they need food for the dinner. The bbq is running all day with burgers and sausage for only a couple of bucks. But there is a FREE dinner at 5pm, to mark the end of the event.

Hey, I was there, saw your display and watched you do your thing for a while, cool stuff! Congrats on the demo. I don't think we actually talked but I'm sure you remember me, I was the sweaty middle aged slightly overweight bearded white guy. :)

I was surprised how many demonstrators I either already knew or have worked with, or have friends in common with this year. What a small world!

This was only my 2nd year at rust fest but I'm not missing another if I can help it.

Glad you came out Jeff. I have to admit, the faces were becoming a blur. There was at least one other member, @slow-poke , there in the morning.
This was my first try, at something like this, and I didn't really know what to expect. So I was a little bit all over the place, just answering the questions that were coming at me. I was surprised at how many people were interested, but thought it was to difficult to start out with. There were also a bunch who have already made pens, so the questions bounced from one end of the spectrum to the other.
I will definitely do it again next year. I already have an idea of what I’ll do and how I’ll run it.
I hope you do come out, and definitely jump in and say hi.

Thanks for posting and letting us know about this event, it was my first time and I really enjoyed it.
I missed the beginning of your presentation, I was attending the host, Jack Forsberg woodworking shop tour, which was really entertaining and informative. After I walk out of is shop and saw the blacksmiths at work, I was mesmerized watching them making a medieval helmet and another making a measuring caliper. Those guys were hard working troopers demonstrating there craft and skills in such extreme hot weather. Then I walk around the wadkin temple and joined your pen turning presentation. I was really impressed with you presentation and your level of craftsmanship. You mentioned in the above post " I was a bit all over the place " not really, your presentation was very well done, I have learn lots from the hour I spent watching your presentation. I now realize all the step needed to make a pen from scratch and of this quality. In the end there a piece of art, a collector item. Well done!

I am super looking forward to the next Rust Junk Fest
